Songs from 'Neverland' at Children’s Museum

Full performance July 21 and 25 at ISU New Theatre

TERRE HAUTE — On Saturday, July 21, at 2 p.m., Terre Haute Children’s Museum guests will get a glimpse into a world of imagination and magic as Crossroads Repertory Theatre performs songs and scenes from the new musical, “Return of Neverland.”

“Return of Neverland,” which was written by Indiana State University alumnus Andrew Park, with music by Scott Lamps, is a sequel to “Peter Pan.” The story is brought to life under the stage direction of Arthur Feinsod, with music direction by Mark Carlisle.

In this tale, Wendy is grown up and married to one of the former Lost Boys that she helped save from Neverland during their childhood. They have moved to New England to avoid the lures of Neverland, but dreams haunt their teenage daughter, Jane. Jane’s parents attempt to save her by sending her away with Mr. Leatherbee to boarding school, but the scheming Captain Hook foils their plans and she winds up in Neverland.

The world premiere of the production took place in Terre Haute earlier this month, and there are possibilities to stage it in Chicago and Madison, Wis. Park had the idea for this “Peter Pan” sequel because of the universal appeal of people wanting to hold onto the magic of childhood.

The “Return of Neverland” performance at the Children’s Museum will take place in the theatre on the third floor of the museum, and it will last about an hour. It is free with museum admission, but seating is limited and will be first-come, first-served.

The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is located on the corner of Eighth Street and Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute. The museum is open Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Regular admission is $7 for adults and children 2 and older, and admission is free for children up to 24 months. Members of the museum also are admitted for free. For more information, call (812) 235-5548 or log on to www.thchildrensmuseum.com. More information can also be found on the museum’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/terrehautechildrensmuseum.

A full performance of “Return of Neverland” will take place on Saturday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. Performances will take place in Indiana State University’s New Theatre at 540 N. Seventh St. For ticket prices and more information, visit www.crossroadsrep.com or call (812) 237-3333.
