Community Theater of Clay County’s final dinner show of season set

Special to the Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE The Community Theater of Clay County’s final dinner show of the 2007-2008 season is set for May 2-3.

A Musical Mystery Tour of the World will feature a wind ensemble composed of 23 members from the Brazil Concert Band in a program produced and directed by Matthew S. Huber.

The story plot involves Huber and fellow musician T.J. Sneddon, who are sent to the International Bandmasters Convention in the fanciful principality of Cantstandistan known for its bountiful sulfur pits and record earthquakes, among other features.

On the way back, Matt and T.J. just can’t seem to make the right flight connections and wind up lost throughout the world. As one might guess, each new port of call features a community band, which allows T.J. to drum and Matt to conduct.

Theatergoers will be treated to the vocal sensations of Kendra Kirby of the World Gospel Church.

Veteran character actor Carl McKinney of the CTCC has multiple cameo appearances as the ticket agent in each new location.

John P. Huber, Indiana State University music student, will be featured in Herbert Clarke’s version of “The Carnival of Venice.”

CTCC official Susan Sneddon is designing a delicious dinner for patrons with an international flavor.

The evening will feature fine band music played around the world and will include musicians Steve Garlits, Dr. Martin Dixon, Andy Whittington, Dick Gustafson, Jeff Shively, Alice Greenburg, Ralph Stewart, Bill Morthland, John Boruff, Jean Penry, Rhonda Hine, John Penry, Robert Pell, Dr. Miranda Goodale, Betty Niswonger, Darlene Shepard, Brad Ogborn, Ersel E. Burgess and Wayne Parkins.

Pianist Rita Rothrock will provide dinner musical selections.

The buffet dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and the Musical Mystery Tour of the World begins at 7:30 p.m.

Reservations are necessary for the dinner and show. Tickets are $25 each and can be bought at the Riddell National Bank or by calling Lisa Beyers at (812) 442-6909.
