TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State football coach Trent Miles … is still Indiana State football coach Trent Miles.
Rumors about Miles’ alleged acceptance of the open Western Michgan job started a brief Twitter brush fire on Tuesday, but Miles insisted the report was “misinformation”.
“I have no idea where [the report] came from. I have not had any conversation with Western Michigan . I don’t understand where this came from,” Miles said Tuesday night.
The report of Miles’ departure came from a football coach-specific web site called footballscoop.com. The site later amended its initial report that Miles would be offered the Broncos’ job, but not before the false report got out and caused a stir.
Media reports Tuesday night out of Kalamazoo , Mich. – where Western Michigan is located – also indicated that the report was untrue. The Kalamazoo Gazette reported that WMU athletic director Kathy Beauregard said the report was “completely false.”
Miles’ name has been attached to several open coaching jobs. He was rumored to be a target of Western Michigan in a report last week in the Kalamazoo media.
With more coaching jobs expected to open, Miles’ name figures to be a hot one as the coaching hiring cycle plays out.
It begs the question … is Miles looking to move on from ISU?
“I am looking to find linebackers, corners, wide receivers and running backs. And defensive and offensive lineman too. That’s what we’re looking for at ISU,” said Miles, when asked whether he was looking at any potential open coaching jobs.
When contacted Tuesday, ISU Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman said that he had no “official or unofficial contact” with Miles about a potential departure.
Miles said he was as taken aback by the reports as anyone was. He claimed that he knew nothing of the report until it was published Tuesday night and his phone began to fill up with inquiries.
