Long Term wins Great Midwest Pace at Martinsville, Ill.

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — The half-mile race track was a busy place Thursday at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair.

Nineteen heats of harness racing were run after rain wiped out Wednesday’s second day of racing. Great Midwest Trot and Pace races were included on the card.

Long Term, a 3-year-old driven by Mike Rogers, won the Great Midwest Pace for its sixth career win.

Fox Valley Cameo, another 3-year-old driven by Jamaica Patton, won the Great Midwest Trot., winning for the second time in 20 starts.

Freddie Patton Jr. was in the bike for Fox Valley Shiner and the 2-year-old filly pacer won for the seventh time in eight starts in the Tim Wilson Jr. Memorial race that was on Wednesday’s schedule.

Patton also was the driver for 2-year-old colt pace winner Tower Power, also winning for the seventh time in eight starts.

Both pacers have earnings of better than $10,000.

Buddy Simpson was the driver of two winners on that same card.

Thoroughbred races are slated at the track today. Post time is 1 p.m. CDT.

Wednesday’s schedule

2-year-old trot, $2,500 purse

Results — Fancy Feet Ferge (Paul Cavett), Missy’s Misfit, Bens Stella, Davids Ridge, Huntingforpennies, Hoosier Jared, Reasoning As, 2:13.2.

2-year-old pace, $1,500 purse

First division — Straight Red One (Isaac Love), Big Matty, Indiana Jones T, Triple E Shorty, Do Not Point, H-andnharleythe jet., 2:05.

Second division — Codey Shark (Buddy Simpson), Difference Maker, Liberal, Mighty McArthur, Whoopedmaginjosey, Major Mayhem, Lostintheshuffle, 2:04.

2-year-old filly trot, $2,073 purse

First division — Accokeek Diana (Clay Simpson), Dancinginthebreeze, Hong Kong Kiwi, Lora Lee Breeze, Special Friends, BC’s Hot Dancer, 2:15.

Second division — Bands Alexis (Mike Cox), Sweet Bella Breeze, Psychicfinn, Shady Maple Fiesty, Scylla’s Breeze, 2:12.2.

2-year-old colt trot, $1,878 purse

First division — Come And Tell Pap (Isaac Love), Battleshoe Crown, Bands Happy Ruler, Swiss Mocha, Polars Big Spender.

Second division — Battleshoe King (Buddy Simpson), Skyline Boomer, Finnster, Ringo The Star, 2:10.

2-year-old filly pace, $3,624 purse

Results — Fox Valley Shiver (Freddie Patton Jr.), Cypress Hill Rose, Kiss This Perch, Syd’s Lollipop, Shady Maple Hanna, Shootin To Win, I’m All Track, BC’s Fancy Dancer, 2:07.3.

2-year-old colt pace, $3,747 purse

Results — Tower Power (Freddie Patton Jr.), Sheriff Joe, Whatwillhebe, Splended Party, Independent Dude, Go Run N Tell That, Party’s Gold, He Made Up His Mind, 2:01.3.

  • Farris, Amies win Brazil Open titles

    Troy Farris and George Amies were two winners in the Brazil Open concluded Sunday at Forest Park.
    Farris claimed his 10th title in the event with rounds of 65 and 68 for 9-under-par 133. He went 30-35 in Sunday’s round and had an eagle and nine birdies in the two days.

    Phegley is a third-time All-Star in the International League, while Marshall, Ill., native Derek Eitel was named to his first Triple-A All-Star game. The Rose-Hulman graduate and right-handed relief pitcher for the Reno Aces has put up impressive numbers in the Pacific Coast League. Eitel has a 2.70 earned-run average with 60 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings for the Diamondbacks’ top minor-league team.
