LaGrange takes early lead in city’s junior golf tournament

TERRE HAUTE — Good scores were recorded in the first round of the city junior golf tourney on Tuesday at Rea Park to set up close contests in some of the divisions.

Andrew LaGrange had the low score of the round played in warm conditions with a par-72. LaGrange will be a senior at Terre Haute North.

He has a two-shot lead in the boys 15-17 division over Colt Kuppler, who will be a sophomore at Sullivan, and is three better than South players Drew and Ryan Cahill, each carding 75.

Darin Pemberton had 78 while Blake Bennett and Riley Pirtle each shot 79 to round out the top seven,

Cam Lewellen shot 82 and is up by two over Jacob English in the boys 13-14 division.

Megan Ramer was best for the girls with 84 and is the leader in the girls 13-14 division; Andrew Granda shot 39 for the low nine-holes score and leads  in the 11-12 boys division.

Carson Smith had 93 and has a one-shot lead over Alexandria Bryant in the girls 15-17 division while Taylor Monroe is third and Taylor Baugh fourth.

David Hayes shot 45 to take the lead in the 10-and-under group. He is five shots up on Ryan Lieberman and six ahead of Gabriel Ponset.

Tee times will be the same as Tuesday for today’s second round at Rea Park. They will be adjusted for the final round on Thursday.
