Braves win Vigo County title at Rea Park

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South nipped Terre Haute North by two shots to win the Vigo County championship for high school girls golf teams on Thursday at Rea Park.

The Braves had 180 to win with North shooting 182 and West Vigo 245 in the match played in warm, pleasant conditions.

South improved to 8-1 for the season and won the county for the second year in a row and for the sixth time under coach Cara Stuckey.

South sophomore Ali Danielson had two birdies in shooting 40 to take medalist honors. North freshman Megan Ramer was second low with 41 and Taylor Monroe of South was third with 42.

South’s third score came from Alexandria Maris with 47; Taylor Baugh and Madison Gruenert each had 51. Freshman Emily LaGrange was second low for North with 46 followed by senior Alli Farrington with 47 and junior Alex Bryant with 48.

Senior Hannah Harden led the Vikings with 58 and Brittany Voils had 60. Both recorded personal bests.

“Winning the county is always a nice accomplishment. We defended our home course. I am really proud of the girls,” said Stuckey. The Braves also defeated Edgewood this week.

North played its third match of the week but will not see action again until Sept. 14 in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Confererence Championships at Oak Tree. Its match against Rivet and North Knox was cancelled on Wednesday.

“Everyone is seeing improvement [and] Hannah and Brittany had their personal bests,” said West Vigo coach Chris Cassell.

The Vikings will be in the Western Indiana Conference Championships set for Saturday at Idle Creek.
