TERRE HAUTE — Sullivan took team and individual honors in the Western Indiana Conference boys high school golf championships played Saturday at Idle Creek.

Sullivan shot a season-best 318 for its first team championship in boys golf since 2006.

The Golden Arrows were followed by Owen Valley 331, Northview 337, Edgewood and South Vermillion 377, West Vigo 426, and Brown County 467.

Sullivan sophomore Nathan Pirtle took medalist honors with a 1-over-par 72 score. Teammate Colt Kuppler, a freshman, was second low with 77 and Matt Patterson of Owen Valley was third low with 78.

Eleven players earned all-conference honors.

Pirtle was second a year ago. He had three birdies and went 34-38 in the match played in cool, wet conditions.

“The course played long,” said Pirtle. He said his best 18-hole score in a prep match has been 70.

Kuppler was 38-39 and had no birdies while Patterson went 37-41 and had three birdies in his round.

Two freshmen, one sophomore, one junior and one senior made up Sullivan’s team. Luke Willis had 81 and freshman Riley Pirtle carded 88 to round out the Sullivan scoring.

“I’m tickled for the kids to get a conference championship. It is something we have talked about all year and one of our goals. We didn’t play so well on Wednesday and I wasn’t sure what to expect. The players hung in there,” said Sullivan coach Doug Boyd.

Sullivan has lost only twice in nine-hole matches, losing to Terre Haute North and by two shots to Vincennes Lincoln. The Arrows meet North again on Tuesday at Hulman Links and play Northview on Thursday.

Northview also shot a season- best 18-hole score and Owen Valley tied its season best, having shot a 331 at Cascades in Bloomington earlier in the season.

One senior, three sophomores and a freshman made up Northview’s team.

“I was glad for Dylan to get all-conference as a senior. Blake played well for a freshman. We’ll look to improve,” said Northview coach Josh Trout.
