TH North golfers beat Northview

BRAZIL — Terre Haute North won its second boys high school golf match of the week Thursday, defeating Northview 149-161 at Forest Park.

The Patriots are 3-0 in nine-hole matches and had a score below 150 for the second time this week with five players shooting in the 30s.

Junior Adam LaGrange led the Patriots with 1-below-par 34. “I had two birdies and a bogey,” he said.

Andrew Behnke had a birdie and carded 37, while Evan Perdiew, Dante Bagnoche and Ryan Baker all had 39.

Seth Payton led the Knights, now 3-2, with 38 and Dylan Nesty shot 40.

North coach Abe Nasser Jr. was pleased with the scores posted in the match in chilly, windy conditions.

“Adam played very well. I am happy … the course played tougher than we expected with the wind and cold,” he said.

The Patriots and Terre Haute South will vie for Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference honors Saturday at Hulman Links. Tee times begin at 10 a.m.

Carmel is the defending champ and is ranked fifth in this week’s poll. North and South both received votes to gain honorable mention.

“It’s always about beating Carmel. We’ll see what happens,” said Nasser.

“We’ll have to bring our A game,” said LaGrange.

Northview will be in action again Monday, meeting Linton and South at Forest Park.

  • Redneck Quaker: A young lady of the outdoors

Where do I start to tell you about this 10-year-old outdoor lady? Let’s start with her own words from a nice letter she wrote.

“My name is Lilly Hutchison and this year when I was nine and again hunting with my Papaw, Mike Burch, we got up way before daylight on opening morning of youth deer season. I was watching a 6-pointer for several minutes until a larger buck appeared and chased him off, but not giving me a shot at him. Papaw and I were preparing a place for our evening hunt when a couple of does came across the field right to us. I carefully placed my shot and she ran around 8 yards. That evening, we decided to go to our neighbors’ woods. On the way in, we saw a large buck watering in one of the few puddles in the creek. Papaw said we would wait nearby to see if he would come back. To our amazement, he did! I was fortunate to take this 10-pointer, 250-pound buck. I have had many great hunts with Papaw.”
