Prep/Metro roundup: Marshall girls pick up big wins at Robinson

ROBINSON, Ill. — Marshall’s Lions got a huge girls high school basketball victory Friday afternoon at the Robinson Thanksgiving Tournament, downing Mt. Carmel and 2013 Illinois Miss Basketball Tyra Buss 57-53.

Breah Keim hit six 3-pointers and led the Lions with 25 points, while Kaydie Grooms added 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists; Cheyenne Thompson 10 points and six rebounds; and Abbie Switzer six points and four assists.

Buss had a game-high 33 for Mt. Carmel, her low output for the season after scoring 49 and 48 in the Golden Aces’ first two wins.

Grooms paced the Lions to a 62-31 victory later Friday night with a 26-point effort while Thompson added 11.

In another Friday game, Guerin Catholic defeated Casey 52-38 despite 21 points by Kyleigh Decker of the Warriors.
