Today’s prep basketball games

TERRE HAUTE — Northview at Terre Haute South

The action
— Northview’s Knights (0-1) visit Terre Haute North’s Patriots (1-1) in a game postponed by weather conditions on Friday.

The time — Varsity tipoff is approximately 7:30 p.m.

The airwaves — The game will be streamed on

The coaches  — Clint Weddle is 8-16 in his second season at Northview. Todd Woelfle is 76-50 in his sixth season at North.

Probable starting lineups — For Northview: 6-0 senior Mark Underwood, 6-5 senior Ethan Whitson and 6-6 senior Jim Mace at forwards, 6-4 Christian Ellis and 5-11 junior Joe Ball at guards.

For North: 5-9 junior C.J. Brown at the point, 6-7 junior Jackson Wolaver at center and 6-6 junior Charlie Aimone, 6-0 sophomore Keshaun Sandifer and 5-11 junior Austin Kurashima at the other spots.

Key reserves — For Northview: 6-5 senior Daniel Kimball, 5-11 freshman Dylan Hyatt, 6-5 sophomore Hunter Ragan and 6-0 sophomore Quinton Hayes.

For North: 6-2 sophomore Casius Bell, 5-9 senior Austin Benson, 6-0 senior Mitchell Dennany, 6-0 junior Andrew Farmer, 6-2 sophomore Braxton Poore, 6-3 sophomore Kobi Riley, 5-8 sophomore A.J. Smith and 6-1 junior Brian Stevens.

Team leaders — Whitson scored 17 points in Northview’s only game so far. Sandifer has scored 13 and 21 points in North’s first two games while Kurashima and Aimone had 15 and 13 respectively on Saturday.

Recent games — Northview hasn’t played since a 69-55 loss to Vincennes on Nov. 26. North lost 53-40 at Lebanon on Nov. 29 and beat Robinson, Ill., 65-50 on Saturday.

Last meeting — North won 67-42 at Brazil last season.

Coaches’ quotes — Weddle on the Knights: “We’ve practiced very well and we’ve been very focused. We’re looking forward to getting a few more games under our belt.”

Woelfle on the Patriots: “I was very pleased with the way they responded [against Robinson]. We had a good week of practice, and that carried over into Saturday night’s game.”

Weddle on the Patriots: “I’m very impressed with the way they defend. It’s apparent they’ve got a couple kids who can put up good numbers on any given night.”

Woelfle on the Knights: “They’re big. The thing that jumps out at you about them is their sheer size. That will cause every one of their opponents to really think about how they’re going to prepare to play them.”

  • Andy Amey: Just a small trip to talk about this time

    To paraphrase Carl Spackler, the heavy stuff’s not going to come for quite awhile. So while it’s true that I’m back from a week’s vacation, it’s not time — yet — for the big vacation column. Trips to Noblesville, Brunswick and Reelsville, while providing some nice family time, don’t really have the cachet to fill newspaper space.

    The Pacers couldn’t keep waiting around for Lance Stephenson to make up his mind. So on Friday, they went to work. The two-time Eastern Conference runner-ups announced they had signed three free agents — backup big man Lavoy Allen, swingman C.J. Miles and Damjan Rudez, a sharp-shooting forward from Europe.

    Terre Haute native Jake Odum scored three points in the Indiana Pacers’ 84-74 victory on Thursday over the Miami Heat in the Orlando Summer League.

  • Thoroughbreds complete race card at Martinsville

    Thoroughbred races were on Friday’s card to wind up four days of Illinois racing at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair. Horses owned by Bart Baird and Lance and Stacey Holsapple won all six of the thoroughbred races on the card with two other features run for ponies and mules.

  • LeBron James says he’s returning to Cavaliers

    LeBron James is going back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
    James told Sports Illustrated Friday that he’s decided to go home. It’s a move that would have seemed unfathomable four years ago, after the venomous fallout that followed his decision to leave Cleveland for the Miami Heat.

    Megan Ramer and Colton Kuppler were two winners in the junior city golf tournament concluded Thursday in sunny, warm conditions at Rea Park.
    Both golfers claimed titles in the 15-17 age division for the first time while Ramer and Andrew Granda were two of the winners in the 2013 tournament.
