ATHENS, Ga. —
After falling 9-1 to No. 23-ranked Georgia in its first game, the Indiana State softball team fell in a 3-2 heartbreaker to Radford in the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.
“It was a great fastpitch game,” ISU coach Shane Bouman said. “The day came down to one pitch, one defensive play and one at-bat. They made the plays and we didn’t. We have learned a lot already this season.”
In the first game, despite having only two hits, the Sycamores had opportunities as four of the first five lead-off batters walked on four straight pitches.
Junior Shelby Wilson got Indiana State on the board in the top of the first inning when she hit an RBI single to score freshman Alexa Cavin and cut the Bulldog lead to 5-1.
The Sycamores could get no closer, however.
In Game 2, after falling behind late, ISU loaded the bases, down one, in the bottom of the seventh before dropping a heartbreaker.
Indiana State junior Morgan Allee finished the game 3 for 4, while Wilson went 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.
The Sycamores (9-9) will return to action today when they wrap up play in the Bulldog Invitational with a 10 a.m. game against North Dakota State.
