Hunting: Heritage Banquet coming next month

TERRE HAUTE — I’m on the board of directors for the Clay County Wabash Valley Limbhangers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. This is a personal invite to a great time for a great cause, promoting the outdoors and preserving our turkey hunting heritage.

It’s banquet time again, on March 8, we will conduct our fifth annual Hunting Heritage Banquet. We are still at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds, located on Indiana State Road 59, and we still are lucky enough to have Outback Steakhouse of Terre Haute catering the food.

Prices are as follows:  A single meal ticket is $55 and that is your membership and one meal and the couple’s ticket is $75 with one membership and two meals. Our sponsor’s ticket is $265, which includes one meal, your membership, a sponsor gift and one chance for the drawing for the sponsor gun. It also includes a $100 raffle pack. A couple’s sponsor ticket is $275 and includes everything in the sponsor membership, but you also get a second meal. The corporate table is $1,200 and includes one sponsor membership of one meal, a sponsor gift, one chance at the sponsor gun and $400 worth of raffle tickets, also seven regular memberships, a guaranteed gun on table, and six additional meals. This year, we also are selling sponsor tables for $600 and they include one sponsor membership, one meal, a sponsor gift, one chance at the sponsor gun and $400 worth of raffle tickets, and three regular memberships with three additional meals. The Jakes tickets are $10 and if you are already a current member of the NWTF, your meal ticket is $20.

We will be taking reservations on raffle packs and the breakdown on that is if you get it reserved before Feb 28, you can get an Early Bird Mega Raffle pack, which includes $300 worth of raffle tickets and one gun of the year ticket for $100. If you reserve it after the 28th or wait to buy it at the door, the standard raffle pack is $200 worth of raffle tickets and one gun of the year ticket for $100. If you buy one of the raffle packs, you will have the option to upgrade, which will get you $100 worth of raffle tickets and one gun of the year ticket for an additional $50.

We, the Wabash Valley Limbhangers, have had a busy year. We helped at the NWTF booth at the Deer and Turkey Expo at the State Fairgrounds in February. We held a Gun Bash in June and a Spot Shoot in July. We held our Third Jakes Extreme Jakes Outdoor Fest in August. In September, we had a table display at the fourth annual Clay County Nature Outdoors Event at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds in Brazil.

In November, we donated turkeys through the Turkey Hunters Care Program to the Clay County Food Bank and the Clay City High School. Leading in serving Club, and in December we co-sponsored the Clay County 4-H Junior Leaders gun show. We have had a really good year and a whole lot of fun, met some really great people and hopefully made some new friends. We now have a Facebook page where you can check out our upcoming events and see pictures of the events. It’s the Wabash Valley Limbhangers or you can also click on the link from the NWTF-Indiana Facebook page.

We hope to see you all in March. Bring the family, tell a friend and come have a good time and help to support a good cause.
