METRO ROUNDUP: ISU’s Riley recognized

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State’s Tanner Riley has been named the National Kickoff Returner Of The Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his efforts as part of the homecoming victory over Missouri State on Saturday.

Riley answered a Missouri State first-quarter touchdown with a 93-yard return for a score to even the game at 7-7 en route to the 31-17 triumph over the Bears.

His kickoff return was ISU’s first for a TD since Leonard Riston did it last season against Butler and was the longest by a Sycamore since 2005.

The touchdown proved to be Riley’s only kickoff return opportunity of the game. He added one catch for seven yards against the Bears.

In other awards:

• Engineers sweep volleyball honors — Rose-Hulman’s Anna Lewer and Kate Dangel swept Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in volleyball, the league announced Monday.

Lewer had 30 kills and finished the week with a .375 hitting percentage to lead Rose-Hulman in wins at Hanover and Manchester. Against Hanover, Lewer had 13 kills and 12 digs, and followed that performance with 17 kills and 10 digs against Manchester.

Dangel earned her third HCAC Defensive Player of the Week award by leading the Engineers with 31 digs, 16 at Hanover and 15 at Manchester.

Rose-Hulman is 14-7, 3-1 in HCAC play, and plays Thursday at Mount St. Joseph and Friday at Franklin.
