Patton stays hot at Martinsville Fair

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Freddie Patton Jr. was the leader for the second day in a row in harness racing action at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair.

The ace driver and trainer was in the bike for two winners and was nipped at the finish in a third race with 2-year-old trotters and pacers in the seven races on the card run in sunny, pleasant conditions.

Patton was the leading driver and trainer on the Illinois county fair circuit a year ago and is the leader in both divisions again this season, upping his leading driving totals to 22 wins.

His first winning drive Wednesday came with filly pacer Fox Valley Brooke, owned by Willie Scott. The filly led most of the way to win its fourth straight race in 2 minutes, .3 seconds in the fifth race.

Patton also had the winner in the sixth race, driving another filly pacer, Fox Valley Aubry, to a wire-to-wire triumph for its third win in five starts.

In the seventh and final race, Patton was behind Fourboltmane and had the lead at all the quarter stops but was passed by winner Uncle Si at the finish.

T.Tetrick was the driver for Uncle Si and also was in the bike for AKA Clyde, the winner in the first race of the day. AKA Clyde was making its first start.

Allbeef N Nobull, driven by Ronnie Gillespie, also was a winner in its first start in the best time of the two days of racing: 1:59.2.

More harness racing is slated for today with the Great Midwest Trot and Great Midwest Pace on the card. Thoroughbred racing is set for Friday.
