Metro roundup: Odum to work out with Lakers

Terre Haute native and former Indiana State guard Jake Odum will have two more workouts before next Thursday’s NBA Draft.

Odum will workout with the Los Angeles Lakers today. Odum will have a second workout with the Orlando Magic next week before the draft.

Since he began his transition to professional basketball, Odum has worked out with the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, the Orlando Magic and the Indiana Pacers.

Odum is hoping to become ISU’s first NBA player since Larry Bird retired in 1992.

Track and Field

n Evans qualifies — Rose-Hulman 2013 graduate Liz Evans will compete at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Hornet Stadium on the Sacramento State University campus on June 29.

Evans finished seventh in the 2013 USTAF Outdoor Championships and snapped the NCAA Division III all-time record in the women's high jump with a mark of 6-foot-1/2 inch leap at Drake University. She later added a sixth-place finish in the 2014 USTAF Indoor National Championships.

Evans earned qualification to the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships due to her performance at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on April 18.  She cleared a mark of 5 feet-11 1/2 inches to earn her spot at this year's national championship meet.


• TH travel teams do well
— Three Terre Haute travel softball teams had a fantastic weekend as all 3 teams were victorious in their age division tournaments over the June 13-15 weekend.

The 16U Indiana Outkast went undefeated all weekend in Columbus to win the 2014 Indiana USFA State Tournament championship. Team members include: Emily Berrisford, Mary Curley, Hollie Jones, Katelynn Kennedy,Valerie Lewis, Maggie Lubbehusen, Carlee McFarland, Mallory Nease, Lauren Perrelle, Ariel Povlin, and Kelsey Young. The team is coached by Brook Povlin and Carlos Young. In July, the team will travel to Panama City Beach, Florida to compete in the USFA World Series.

The 14U Indiana Havoc traveled to Mattoon, Ill. to compete in the Central Illinois USSSA State Tourney. The team battled back out of the losers bracket to finish first out of 15 teams. Team members include: Carly Brown, Mallory Clarkson, Taylor Ellis, Hope Grange, Brooke Lambermont, Chrislyn Marrs, Kirbie Mendenhall, Kassi Morrison, Emily Perrelle, Jocee Sackett, and Jaelyn Walker. The team is coached by: Cindy Ellis and Boomer Grange.

In July, the team will travel to Williamsburg, Virginia to compete in the World Series.

The 12U Indiana Terror team went undefeated all weekend at the MSA Father’s Day tournament. They finished 1st out of 10 teams. Team members include: Mackenzie Barger, Alex Bratcher, Aubrey Burgess, Lexi Cottrell, Haley Howard, Emmy Morris, Jenna Perrelle, Ashley Roberts, Lauren Sackett, and Morgan Yeryear. The team is coached by Chad Howard and Janeen Sackett.

In July, the team will travel to Northwest Indiana to compete in the NSA World Series.


• Juniors in action — At the Country Club of Terre Haute, a Junior Tour event was played Thursday. Two of the winners were Jace Moody and Emily Lewellen.
