Metro sports: Cassell wins Lawrence County title

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Chris Cassell put together two rounds of 4-under-par 68 for a two-shot victory for his first Albright Motors Lawrence County Open championship on Sunday.

“To win a tournament is always tough with this many quality players. You make a mistake and somebody is going to capitalize,” Cassell told Tom Graham of the Vincennes Sun-Commercial. “But I thought I played well all day.”

Cassell fell to two behind after an opening-hole bogey Sunday. But his birdie march on No. 2, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 14 pushed him to 9-under and a four-shot cushion.

Terre Haute golfers won three of the five flights.

Scott Givens captured A flight, Larry Fossi was the B flight champion and Tom Horrall took D flight.
