PREP ROUNDUP: South's Hambrock advances to individual tennis state finals

KOKOMO — Terre Haute South sophomore Lauren Hambrock advanced to the individual state finals for girls high school tennis Saturday with wins over Brittany Barger of Norwell (6-0, 6-2) and Sarah Cai of West Lafayette (7-5, 6-1) in matches played at Kokomo.

“Lauren just played fantastic,” South coach Bill Blankenbaker said.

Hambrock will play Friday at Indianapolis.

The Braves’ No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Sofia Saylor and freshman Pam Dorman  to Fort Wayne Carroll’s Taylor Stanchin and Mackenzie Schoeff.

The Carroll duo won 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-1.

“I’m very proud of them. To play well at this level for two underclassmen says a lot for their future,” South coach Bill Blankenbaker said.


• LIC team named — The Little Illini all-conference team has been announced.

Three players from Casey and two from Marshall made the first team. Casey and Cumberland tied for first in the final standings.
