The junior American Legion baseball team from Wayne Newton Post 346 came out of the losers’ bracket Saturday night to advance to the state championship game that will be played today.
Terre Haute lost 9-5 to Rockport in Saturday’s first game, but came back to eliminate Newburgh in the late game. Post 346 plays Rockport again at 1 p.m. today.
Chase Jones had three hits and Brandon Taylor and Zack Edwards two each in the loss to Rockport.
Big blow in the win over Newburgh was a two-out hit by Damon Bass that drove in three runs and tied the score in the bottom of the fifth inning. Taylor scored the winning run on a passed ball in the sixth.
