SPRINGFIELD, Ill. —
A 2-for-3 day by Brian Wolfe propelled the Terre Haute Rex to a 3-1 victory over the Springfield Sliders in a Prospect League game on Sunday.
After the Sliders scored a run in the first, Terre Haute tied it in the top of the fifth thanks to an Andrew Cope double that scored Wolfe.
Terre Haute took the lead in the seventh after Kyle Kempf reached on an error, advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a groundout. A Wolfe sacrifice fly in the ninth provided Terre Haute’s other run.
The Rex also won on the road late Saturday as it defeated Hannibal 7-3. Wolfe had a home run in that game.
Terre Haute returned to the .500 mark with the two-game win streak. The Rex play host to Danville tonight at Bob Warn Field.
In other baseball:
• Terre Haute North 10s are 2-1 — At Jeffersonville, the Terre Haute North 9-10 Year-old All-Star Little League team is 2-1 in the state tournament.
North won 14-0 against Valparaiso on Thursday as Case Lautenschlager was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. North defeated Broad Ripple 13-3 on Friday. Will Egger was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
North fell to two-time state champion New Albany 12-3 on Saturday.
North plays its final pool game at 6:30 p.m. tonight against Auburn. If North wins, it will advance to a semifinal on Tuesday.
• Junior Legion falls, but advances — At Kokomo, Wayne Newton Post 346’s Junior Legion team fell to Kokomo 8-7 in eight innings on Sunday, but still advanced to Thursday’s state tournament.
Brandon Taylor had two hits and two runs, Chase Jones has a double and two RBI while Dakota Watson and Brandon Curley had two hits apiece in the loss.
The Junior Legion state tournament begins Thursday in Kokomo. Terre Haute plays Rockport at 7:30 p.m.
• Clauson takes title — Bryan Clauson was declared winner of the Indiana Sprint Week championship when the final race in the series was rained out Saturday at Tri-State Speedway at Haubstadt.
Clauson finished with 398 points in the U. S. Auto Club event. Brady Bacon was second with 272 and Kevin Thomas Jr. took third with 367.
Clauson also is the leader in the USAC sprint points race, leading Dave Darland by seven points.
