METRO ROUNDUP: Class A, 2A baseball, softball pairings set

TERRE HAUTE — Schedules and pairings have been set for Class A and Class 2A baseball and softball high school tournaments in Illinois.

Baseball and softball games are slated for today at Marshall.

Casey is the No. 2 seed in the Casey Class 2A Regional for softball and Paris is the No. 2 seed in the Tuscola Regional for baseball.



Class A baseball

Louisville (North Clay) Regional

Today — 4:30 p.m. Martinsville (5) at Oblong (4).

Wednesday — 4:30 Louisville (North Clay) vs. Game 1 winner followed by Dieterich (2) vs. Cumberland (3).

Saturday — 11 a.m. championship.



Class 2A baseball

Robinson Regional

Today — 4:30 Robinson (5) at Casey (4); 4:30 Newton (6) at Marshall (3).

Wednesday — 4:30 Teutopolis (1) vs. Game 1 winner followed by Effingham St. Anthony (2) vs. Game 2 winner.

Saturday — 10 a.m. championship.

n Marshall 3, Robinson 1 — At Marshall, Ill., the Lions wrapped up their third straight Little Illini Conference championship and fifth in six years by winning Saturday.

n Mayhew second — At Columbus, Ohio, Zach Mayhew of Indiana placed second Friday night in the 10,000-meter run at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.

The Terre Haute North graduate had a time of 29:38.56, less than two seconds behind winner Maverick Darling of Wisconsin.

n Wilson posts win — Mike Wilson was one of the winners in action on Saturday at Crossroads Dragway.

n Thomas prevails — At Haubstadt, Kevin Thomas Jr. was a double winner in U.S. Auto Club/Midwest Sprint Car Series racing Saturday at Tri-State Speedway.

Thomas won his heat and led the first 19 turns and the final six to win the 30-lap main. Robert Ballou was second and Chase Stockon third

Stockon is the leader in the sprint point totals going into Friday's racing at Bloomington Speedway.
