Metro roundup: RHIT’s Evans sets Div. III record in high jump

Louisville, Ky. — For the third time this season, Rose-Hulman senior Liz Evans topped the NCAA Division III all-time national record in the outdoor high jump Friday night.

Evans became the first athlete in Division III women’s high-jump history to clear 6 feet with her successful leap in the University of Louisville Cardinal Invitational.

The mark of 6-0 also is a provisional qualification for the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships slated for June 19-23 at Drake University.

Rose senior Tyler Hannan moved into potential Division III national qualifying range in the men’s 400-meter dash with a strong effort Friday as well.

Hannan ran the 11th-fastest time in Division III this spring and the second-fastest mark in Rose-Hulman history (47.95 seconds).

On Thursday, senior Trey Cahill placed fourth in the men’s hammer throw in the North Central College Gregory Invitational.

The final meet prior to the DIII nationals will take place next Friday at North Central College in Illinois. The NCAA Division III outdoor championships are scheduled for May 23-25 at Wisconsin-La Crosse.
