Metro/Prep roundup: ISU softball team ties record, takes series

Indiana State stole three bases to tie the Missouri Valley Conference softball record of 100 in a single season and beat Evansville 4-2 Sunday at Price Field for a conference series win.

Mackenzie Connelly tied the record with a delayed steal in the fourth inning and also hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to support winning pitcher Halle Humphrey.

Sacrifice flies in the first and fourth innings by Shelby Wilson and Abbie Malchow had given the Sycamores their first two runs. Connelly and Kelsey Montgomery both went 2 for 3.

ISU, 16-34 overall and 5-19 in the MVC, wraps up its regular season next weekend with a home series against Southern Illinois. UE is 20-28 and 11-12.
