Marshall to play in LIC Tourney consolation game

CASEY, ILL. — The Marshall Lions earned a spot in the Little Illini Conference consolation championship game with a 47-45 win over Olney on Wednesday.

Marshall will face No. 11 seed Edwards County for the consolation championship this evening. Edwards County bested Oblong 56-40 in Wednesday's first game.

The Lions scored the first four points against Oblong and held a 19-15 lead after one period. They  scored  the first five points of the second stanza for a 24-15 advantage and were up 27-22 at halftime.

Drew Morris had four of Marshall's seven points in the third stanza and the Lions took a 34-32 lead into the final frame. The Lions led by as many as seven points in the final period but Olney got within one point when Ryan Eagleson hit two free throws with seven seconds to play.

Keegan Steele hit a free throw to close out the scoring as the Tigers failed to score again.

Morris led the 16-7 Lions with 11 points before fouling out of the game. Walker Berner had nine points before fouling out; Taylor Maurer had eight and Thomas Sisson recorded seven points and seven assists.

Next — Marshall (15-7) plays for the consolation championship tonight. Olney is 9-10.
