Collett hits 11th, 12th as Terre Haute North beats Rockville

TERRE HAUTE — T.J. Collett provided the power and Greg Hannum the pitching Monday night in Terre Haute North’s 10-1 victory over Rockville in nonconference high school baseball at Don Jennings Field.

Collett drove in six runs with his 11th and 12th home runs of the season and Hannum shut out Rockville and gave up just two hits through five innings.

Rockville (10-2) scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning.

Hannum struck out 10, walked one and hit on batter before Austin Massey came on the pitch the seventh inning.

North never trailed because the first four Patriots to bat scored in the first inning.

North’s Jonathan Eilbracht, who was 2 for 3 with two RBI, reached base on an error to lead off. Zach Milam followed with a single and Collett cleared the bases and made it 3-0 with his 11th home run of the season over the right-field fence.

Nathan Will kept North’s inning going with a double into the left-center field gap. Will moved to third on a Lane Dransfield single and scored on Hannum’s ground ball to the shortstop. The Rockville shortstop apparently didn’t step on second base before throwing to first for the second out, allowing Will to score. Dransfield believed he was called out and walked off second base and was tagged out.

Collett put North up 7-0 in the second with his second three-run homer. Eilbracht rapped a two-out single into right field, Milam walked and Collett pulled an inside pitch over the right-field fence.

Eilbracht put North ahead 9-0 in the third inning. Jones and Dansfield started the third with back-to-back base hits and two outs later Austin Turner reached base on an error, loading the bases Eilbracht single into right field scored Jones and Dansfield.

Cam Helderman broke up Hannum’s no-hitter with a single in the fifth inning and the shutout disappeared in the sixth inning.

Tyler Rapp received a walk to lead off the Rockville sixth. Dalton Laney reached base on an error and John Brown singled to score Rapp.
