Metro roundup: Givens, Mundy win two-man golf tournament

TERRE HAUTE — Scott Givens and Tim Mundy maintained their first-day lead to win the Show-Me’s Two-Man golf tournament concluded Sunday at Rea Park

Givens and Mundy shot 65 in the first round at Hulman Links and wound up with 68 at Rea Park to finish with an 11-under-par 133 score in the first Terre Haute Golf Association event of the season.

Givens and Mundy were two shots better than Chris Cassell and Mike Wright and three better than Chris Keen and Tom Jones.

Larry Fossi and Larry Griffin also maintained their first-day lead to win the senior division, carding 69 and 67 on Sunday for an 8-under-par 136. They finished one shot ahead of Ted Kaperak and Dave Nasser with 137.

Next up on the golf schedule is the Brazil Open this weekend at Forest Park.

• Granda fifth — At Noblesville, Andrew Granda of Terre Haute shot a 3-over-par 73 on Friday to place fifth in boys 12 competition of an Indiana Junior Golf Tour event at Forrest Park.

•Junior play begins — At Rea Park and Terre Haute South, the Mary Ann Stadler Memorial Junior Open during the weekend was the first junior championship of the summer season.

Nathan Bogle won a pair of  championships while playing in older age groups in the tournament sponsored by the Wabash Valley Foundation and the Mary Ann Stadler Fund.

• Daum posts win — At Lawrenceburg, Zach Daum won his second U.S. Auto Club midget feature race Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Daum won the semi to make the main and led the final three turns to win the 30-lap main in the fourth Indiana Midget Week event, winning his first feature since taking first in the 2011 Hut Hundred.
