Recent Northview High School graduate Taylor Carter will compete Saturday in the annual North-South All-Star softball doubleheader at the Cherry Tree Complex at Carmel.
Games are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The East Tennessee State signee, a first-team all-state selection, will be part of the South team after a four-year career for the Knights that included a .475 batting average with 23 homers, 138 RBIs, 92 runs and 41 doubles and a 52-22 pitching record with 623 strikeouts in 479 innings pitched.
In four years as a hitter, she struck out just 12 times.
n Welker enters match play — At Dayton, Ohio, Terre Haute’s Rachel Welker completed her qualifying rounds Tuesday at the Women’s Western Golf Association National Amateur Championship and began match play Wednesday.
Welker’s rounds of 77 and 81 put her in the second flight and she was slated to play Erin Michel of Mason, Ohio, in the first round of elimination play.
Also competing in the tournament is Louisville’s Emily Tofaute, granddaughter of George and Wanda Tofaute of Terre Haute. After rounds of 82 and 85, she was in the fourth flight and played Maria Mancini of Poland, Ohio, and Indiana University on Wednesday.
n Schenk leads by one — At South Bend, Adam Schenk will take a one-shot lead into today’s final round of the Indiana Amateur being played at the South Bend Country Club.
Schenk had a four-shot lead after two rounds but had his first over-par round Wednesday with 75 and has a 2-under-par 211 total.
He is one better than Bobby Jacobs, who is at 312 after firing a 67 in the third round. Johnny Watts is four back of the leader and three players are five back of Schenk.
South Vermillion High School graduate Logan Burdick had his worst score of the event, shooting 83, and has a 229 54-hole score. He shot 73 each of the first two rounds.
