Red-hot Strickland leads Engineers past Wabash 77-68

TERRE HAUTE — Julian Strickland tied his career-high point total with 31 Monday night — his third consecutive 30-point game this season — as host Rose-Hulman downed Wabash 77-68 in Hulbert Arena.

Strickland also had a career-high five steals and hnaded out four assists in a 35-minute effort. Jimmy Miller added a career-high 14 points for the Engineers.

Wabash had a 21-20 lead just past the midpoint of the first half when Rose-Hulman went on a 9-2 run.

A 3-pointer by Ulrich enabled Wabash to tie the score at 30, but Miller hit a 3-pointer of his own to give Rose a 33-30 lead at intermission.

Rose pushed its lead to eight at 42-34, only to have Wabash respond with seven straight points.

An 8-2 run sparked by Strickland and freshman Wade Stallings built the home team’s lead to 55-47, and it was 66-56 with 3:47 left.

Wabash got within 69-65 on a basket by Aiton with 1:22 left, but that was as close as the visitors came.

  • Andy Amey: Just a small trip to talk about this time

To paraphrase Carl Spackler, the heavy stuff’s not going to come for quite awhile. So while it’s true that I’m back from a week’s vacation, it’s not time — yet — for the big vacation column. Trips to Noblesville, Brunswick and Reelsville, while providing some nice family time, don’t really have the cachet to fill newspaper space.
