BREAKING NEWS: North-South rematch in football sectional

First sectional meeting since 2003

TERRE HAUTE — For the first time since 2003, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South will play each other in an Indiana High School Athletic Association football sectional game.

South (2-6) will play at North (4-4) in Class 5A, Sectional 6 game. The winner will play the winner of Decatur Central-Avon in the second round.

North defeated South 27-10 on Aug. 24 at Memorial Stadium. The sectional game is the first since 2003, when North won 14-6.

North-South is a Week 2 rematch, as is West Vigo's Class 3A sectional pairing. The Vikings will play host to Greencastle in a Sectional 21 matchup. The winner plays the winner of Indianapolis Arlington-Tri-West.

The Tiger Cubs defeated West Vigo 44-0 on Aug. 24.

Elsewhere, Class A No. 2 Linton will play at North Knox in a Sectional 40 first-round matchup. Class A No. 9 North Central plays host to Turkey Run and could have a rematch with Class A No. 7 North Vermillion in the second round. The Falcons play at Covington.

Northview plays at Class 4A No. 4 Cathedral in Sectional 14 showdown. South Vermillion plays at Class 2A No. 1 Indianapolis Ritter in a Sectional 30 meeting.

Sullivan plays host to South Spencer, and if it won, would host Forest Park in the second park. The Rangers earned a bye.

  • Rex fall to Miners 4-3 in 11 innings, forcing them into tie with Quincy for first place

    The West Virginia Miners tallied the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the 11th inning Wednesday night at Bob Warn Field, then held Terre Haute scoreless in the bottom half of the frame to post a 4-3 baseball victory and shove the Rex into a virtual tie for first place with the Quincy Gems in the Prospect League West Division second-half standings.
    Terre Haute is now 18-8 in the second half, while Quincy is 19-9.

    The Vigo County Education Foundation (VCEF) will host its 22nd annual “Fore the Kids” golf scramble Friday at Rea Park.
    The scamble will begin at 1 p.m., with lunch being served at noon. This year’s tournament chairperson is Dave Piker, a current board member for the VCEF.
    There will be 36 teams comprised of business people and community members as well as teachers, principals and administrators from the Vigo County School Corp.
