Prep roundup: North girls tennis beats ranked teams

MUNCIE — Terre Haute North knocked off two state-ranked teams — No. 12 Fort Wayne Canterbury and No. 13 Delta — on its way to capturing the Delta Invitational championship for girls high school tennis Saturday.

Terre Haute North 4, West Lafayette 1

Singles — Hannah Rudolph (THN) def. Aubrey Krese 6-1, 6-1; Meredith Egan (THN) def. Audrey Folta 6-1, 6-1; Laura Mascari (THN) def. Minsuh Kim 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles — Cardine Oates-Nikki Shaver (WL) def. Samantha Dougherty-Caroline Potter 6-3, 3-6, 10-8; Molly Farmer-Kyla Jarvis (THN) def. Bri Abranison-Shannon Kane 6-3, 6-0.

Terre Haute North 4, Delta 1

Singles — Madison Ashman (D) def. Rudolph 6-0, 6-1; Egan (THN) def. Maggie Thompson 6-2, 7-5; Mascari (THN) def. Shelby Richardson 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles — Dougherty-Potter (THN) def. Kiera Helm-Kaylin Gibson 6-3, 6-3; Farmer-Jarvis (THN) def. Abby Shafer-Emily Decker 6-3, 6-0.

Terre Haute North 3, Fort Wayne Canterbury 2

Singles — Leah Barnes (FWC) def. Rudolph 6-0, 6-1; Chelse Himes (FWC) def. Egan 4-6, 6-1, 10-5; Mascari (THN) def. Ava Vanhelflen 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles — Dougherty-Potter (THN) def. Georgia Williams-Jaclyn Sider 6-1, 6-1; Farmer-Jarvis (THN) def. Meghana Pamid-Elle McCondless 6-2, 6-3.

Next — North (5-0) will be at home Monday to take on Northview, starting at 5 p.m.

South wins its own invitational — At Terre Haute South, the host Braves’ No. 1 team went 3-0 to win its own Braves Invitational.

Terre Haute South No. 1 scores — Defeated Crawfordsville 4-1, defeated Terre Haute South No. 2 5-0 and defeated Indianapolis Chatard 5-0.

Singles records — Lauren Hambrock 3-0, Shivani Purohit 2-1, Nicole Howe 3-0.

Doubles records — Sofia Saylor-Pam Dorman 3-0, Courtney Sheets-Jordan Davis 3-0.

Terre Haute South No. 2 scores — Defeated Indianapolis Chatard 3-2, lost to Terre Haute South No. 1 5-0 and lost to Crawfordsville 5-0.

Singles records — Vanessa Lauby 0-3, Valerie Garza 0-3, Victoria Saylor 1-2.

Doubles records — Meghan Etling-Bailee Williams 1-2, Logan Foust-Izzy Pinkston 1-2.

Next — South’s varsity (4-1) will face Lawrence North on Tuesday at Ben Davis’ courts.
