PREP ROUNDUP: North girls tennis wins 5-0 at Plainfield

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute North’s girls tennis team swept its opening match of the high school season as it defeated Plainfield 5-0 on Wednesday.

The Patriots won four of the five matches in straight sets.

Singles — Hannah Rudolph (THN) def. Carrie Copeland 2-1, default; Meredith Egan (THN) def. Paige Downey 6-1, 6-0; Laura Mascari (THN) def. Natalie Nanman 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles — Samantha Dougherty-Caroline Potter (THN) def. Jessie Rigdon-Kristen Lees 6-3, 3-6, 6-3; Molly Farmer-Kyla Jarvis (THN) def. Kyra Seatman-Allison Huff 6-2, 6-2.

JV — North won 10-2.

Next — North (1-0) plays host to Sullivan today.

In other girls tennis action:

• West Vigo 4, South Vermillion 1 — At Clinton, West Vigo’s four wins were all in straight sets.

Singles — Olivia Harpenau (SV) def. Elyssia Williams 6-2, 6-3; Payton McCall (WV) def. Haley Crouch 6-4, 6-4; Sarah Wyrick (WV) def. Racheal Spendal 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles — Mackenzie Collins-Justice Waltermire (WV) def. Whitney Reyher-Destiny Stills 6-3, 6-0; Kamdyn Moss-Makayla Herring (WV) def. Madison Miller-Keyaira Miller 7-5, 6-4.

Next — West Vigo next plays in the Sullivan invite; South Vermillion plays at Turkey Run tomorrow.

• Floyd Central 4, TH South 1 — At Bedford, South got its lone win at No. 2 doubles.

Singles — Georgia Rossetto (FC) def. Lauren Hambrock 6-1, 6-4; Dana Frank (FC) def. Shivani Purohit 6-1, 7-5; Lexus Applegate (FC) def. Nicole Howe 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles — Alex Jamison-Kaylyn Little (FC) def. Pam Dorman-Sophia Saylor 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 (11-9), Courtney Sheets-Jordan Davis (THS) def. Katrina Klingsmith-Emily Stock 6-4, 6-0.

JV — TH South won 4-3.

Next — TH South (0-1) plays at Northview today.

Boys

n Knights win — At Rea Park, Northview defeated Terre Haute South 163-165 on Wednesday in the first nine-hole match of the season for both teams.

Northview sophomore Blake Bennett was medalist with 38. He had one birdie in the round. Ryan Cahill paced South with 40.

Both teams will compete in the Danville Invitational at Twin Bridges on Saturday.
