ISU women to play Bradley or Loyola in MCV tourney on Friday

Indiana State, after earning the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball tournament, will play either Bradley or Loyola at 1 p.m. Friday, the league announced Sunday.

Coach Teri Moren’s Sycamores defeated Northern Iowa 85-72 on the road Saturday, enabling ISU to finish with the same 14-4 conference record as Wichita State. ISU holds the tiebreaker over the Shockers.

Indiana State has won four regular-season conference championships overall, one in the Gateway Conference and three in the MVC. This year’s title is ISU’s first since 2006.

Wichita and Northern Iowa, which finished 13-5 in conference play, are the second and third seeds while Evansville, on an eight-game winning streak, has the fourth seed.

The tournament begins Thursday at St. Charles, Mo., with the play-in games between Loyola and Bradley and between Missouri State and Southern Illinois.

The championship game is 3 p.m. next Sunday and will be telecast on Fox Sports Midwest. Both Saturday semifinals will also be televised on the MVC Television Network. Earlier games are available through the MVC video-streaming package which is available through Indiana State fans will also be able to listen to a live broadcast on WIBQ-FM 98.5, which also streams online.


Indiana State 8, Western Michigan 4 — At Clearwater, Fla., Morgan Allee hit her first home run of the season and four other players drove in runs Sunday as the Sycamores wrapped up play in South Florida’s Under Armour Showcase.

Brooke Riemenschneider had a two-run single to give ISU a quick lead in the bottom of the first, and Allee’s two-run homer made it 4-1 in the third.

Allee had a run-scoring single and Megan Stone a two-run double in the sixth.

Now 11-6, Indiana State plays Tuesday at Kissimmee against Bucknell and Creighton in the Rebel Games. Western Michigan is now 7-16.


Goatee places twice — At New York, freshman TaPring Goatee of Vincennes University placed in the top five of two events Saturday at the National Junior College Athletic Association Indoor Championships.

The Terre Haute North graduate was third in the 800 in 2:17.24 and fifth in the 1,000 in 3:05.24. She also anchored a national runner-up distance medley relay team.
