TERRE HAUTE — This past week must have been a lucky one for Brian Brown of Terre Haute.

For the second time in seven days Saturday, the 43-year-old Brown registered a hole-in-one at MarkÕs Par Three Golf Course in eastern Vigo County. This time, he used a pitching wedge on the 102-yard No. 12.

Witnessing the feat Saturday was Carey Grimes.

His previous ace, the first of his career, occurred last Sunday on the courseÕs 17th hole.

In other golf news:

* Givens, Mundy lead - At Hulman Links, the first round of the first Terre Haute Golf Association event was played Saturday.

Scott Givens and Tim Mundy went 32-33 in firing a 7-under-par 65 score in the two-man event sponsored by Show-Me's.

They have a two-shot lead over Tom Jones and Chris Keen with 67 and three teams were tied at 68.

Two teams were tied for first in the senior division. Ted Kaperak and Dave Nasser were 34-35 for their 69 and Larry Fossi and Larry Griffin went 33-36 for their share of the lead.

Best-ball was the format for Saturday's round. Alternate shot will be the format today at Rea Park with a shotgun start of 8:30 a.m.

65 - Scott Givens-Tim Mundy 32-33.

67 - Tom Jones-Chris Keen 33-34.

68 - Mark Bird-Mark Neaderhiser 34-34, Chris Cassell-Mike Wright 33-35, Sam Peoples-Mike Toney 33-35.

69 - J.Toews-Dave Brown 33-36.

70 - Marvin Keith-Troy Weber 37-33, Mike Ball-Stacy Vitaniemi 34-36, Ed-J.P. Kanizer 36-34.

Senior division

69 - Ted Kaperak-Dave Nasser 34-35, Larry Fossi-Larry Griffin 33-36.

70 - George Amies-Jerome Trierweiler 35-35.

71 - Chuck Payne-Dink Simonson 35-36.

Auto racing

* Clauson prevails - At Bloomington Speedway, Bryan Clauson was the Indiana Midget Week feature winner in racing Friday.

Clauson led the final 18 turns to win the 30-lap main. Christopher Bell was second and held first place in the Midget Week point totals going into SaturdayÕs fourth race in the series at Lawrenceburg.

Several of the U.S. Auto Club regulars also were in the sprint race on the program with Brady Short winning his heat and the feature. Derek Groomer won the feature for modifieds.
