PREP ROUNDUP: Shakamak's Green hits two homers in win over West Vigo

JASONVILLE — Shakamak improved to 22-3 on the season behind a complete-game effort from Brett Yeryar, and Patrick Green hit two solo home runs in a high school baseball game Monday.

Green’s homers gave him 10 for the season.

Highlights — For Shakamak, Patrick Green went 2 for 3 with 2 solo homers — his ninth and 10th of the season; Braxton Yeryar went 3 for 3; and Kyler Fulford 1 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI. For West Vigo, Kyle Stewart had a double; Brandon Behringer had 2 doubles; and Jordan Schaffer had a double.

Next — Shakamak (22-3) plays at Terre Haute South tonight. West Vigo (17-5) plays today against Riverton Parke at home.

    Phegley is a third-time All-Star in the International League, while Marshall, Ill., native Derek Eitel was named to his first Triple-A All-Star game. The Rose-Hulman graduate and right-handed relief pitcher for the Reno Aces has put up impressive numbers in the Pacific Coast League. Eitel has a 2.70 earned-run average with 60 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings for the Diamondbacks’ top minor-league team.

    Thoroughbred races were on Friday’s card to wind up four days of Illinois racing at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair. Horses owned by Bart Baird and Lance and Stacey Holsapple won all six of the thoroughbred races on the card with two other features run for ponies and mules.
