PLAINFIELD — Carmel claimed another Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference girls golf championship Saturday in league action at Oak Tree.

The Greyhounds shot 315 to win, followed by Center Grove 353, Ben Davis 374, Terre Haute North 383 and Terre Haute South 393 to round out the top five.

Carmel has won 13 straight MIC titles; Center Grove is the only other team to have won a title, winning once.

It was the final MIC championship for North and South, and the first for new members Pike and Lawrence Central.

Carmel senior Makenzie Curtis was medalist for the second straight year, carding a 4-over-par 76 with two birdies. “That’s my best score of the year,” she said.

Curtis edged teammate Maggie Rees, who was second with 77; Angie Kavanaugh of Carmel was third at 80.

Carmel is ranked second in the weekly girls golf poll. Penn is first. Ken Kelly is in his 14th season as the Carmel coach.

“We didn’t play that well today,” he said. Carmel's low 18-hole score of the year has been 294 in the Zionsville Invitational.

Sophomore Ali Danielson led the Braves with 89, low score for Terre Haute players and just missing all-conference. Taylor Monroe was second for South with 95.

Freshman Megan Ramer led the Patriots with 91. Alex Bryant shot 94 and Carson Smith had 99.

North and South both will compete in the Conference Indiana Championships today at Columbus. North has a match with Edgewood on Tuesday, and both teams will vie for sectional honors next Saturday at Forest Park.

North coach Abe Nasser Jr. said his lineup now is set with Alli Farrington and Mia Ponsot joining Ramer, Bryant and Smith in the lineup.

“The course played tough today for the girls. Halfway through, it was concerning … but [they] pulled it together collectively on the back nine. The girls have been working on things and trying to get better. We have a long way to go and not a lot of time to do it,” he said.

South coach Cara Stuckey said her team has “work to do” in the next week. The Braves have concluded nine-hole match action.

Alexandria Maris, Taylor Baugh and Madison Gruenert joined Danielson and Monroe in the South lineup.
