METRO ROUNDUP: Wright wins twice at LPS


---- — Tim Wright was a double winner in racing on Saturday at Lincoln Park Speedway.

Wright won his heat and the feature for bombers. Other winners were Patrick Bruns, Chad Boespflug, Brian Hayden and Steve Peeden. Kenny Carmichael got a pair of seconds.

• Pound a winner — Ron Pound was one of the winners in National Dragster Challenge action on Saturday at Crossroads Dragway.

Pound defeated Adam Price to win in super pro class. Other winners were Thad Mann in pro, Cody Alumbaugh in  Sportsman and Amara Tewell in high school. Clayton Stultz won in junior dragster over brother Brayden.

• Terre Haute second — At Fort Wayne, the Terre Haute women’s 40-and-over team lost a heartbreaker to the host team from Wildwood Racquet Club in the state championship match of USTA Women’s 3.5 competition recently.

Fort Wayne, representing northern Indiana, moves on to the Midwest Championships against teams from Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Terre Haute won both singles matches but lost all three doubles matches in third-set tiebreakers.

Highlights — For the Wabash Valley Animal Hospital Astros, Andy Pickering was 3 for 3; Chad O’Neal was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs; Darren Brucken and winning pitcher Gene Sinclair had 2 hits each; Chad Lawson had a homer and 3 RBIs; and Larry Weaver, Larry Fagg and Dave Montgomery also had hits. For the Diamondbacks, Michael Jackson had a single and double and Sam Shahadey, Pat Conaty, Humphrey and Stuck had singles; Jackson, Conaty and Humphrey had RBIs.
