Preps: South tennis gets road win

BLOOMINGTON — Still without injured No. 1 singles player Nathan Bogle, Terre Haute South still posted a 3-2 win Monday at Bloomington North in high school boys tennis.

Reed Crawford and Trace Harruff were dominating at No. 1 doubles, losing just one game, and coach Bill Blankenbaker credited Krishan Kumar with one of his best matches ever after moving up to play the Cougars’ top player.

Also moving up — and nearly making the outcome 5-0 in South’s favor — were Scott Kellar and Ryan Chung.

Terre Haute South 3, Bloomington North 2

Singles — Krishan Kumar (THS) def. Pete Leonard 6-4, 6-1; John Isaacson (BN) def. Scott Kellar 6-4, 6-4; Scott Bode (BN) def. Ryan Chung 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

Doubles — Reed Crawford-Trace Harruff (THS) def. Jacob Barrett-Charlie Ryan 6-1, 6-0; Matthew Gonzalez-Luke Yeagley (THS) def. Ben Chapman-Joey Shoup 6-4, 6-2.

JV — South won 7-5 and is unbeaten.

Next — Terre Haute South (13-2) plays Brownsburg on Wednesday at Plainfield.

• Sullivan 5, Linton 0 — At Sullivan, both doubles teams for the Golden Arrows won while losing just one game.

Doubles — Austin Bobbitt-Carson Willis (S) def. Dalton Van Patten-Andrew Woods 6-0, 6-1; Branden Davis-Solomon Ficklin (S) def. Jayden Burgess-Rain Foster 6-1, 6-0.

Next — Sullivan (11-7) plays Brown County at Edgewood today. Linton (0-13) plays at Loogootee on Wednesday.


• Terre Haute North 3, Greencastle 0 — At North, Anna Taylor had 26 assists and Mandee Eberle 20 kills as the Patriots won handily.

The annual “Volleyball for the Small” match is Thursday at Terre Haute South.

Highlights — For North, Anna Taylor had 26 assists, 4 blocks, 3 digs, 2 kills, 16 points and an ace; Mandee Eberle 20 kills, 5 digs, 4 blocks, 16 points and 3 aces; Valerie Lewis a kill, a dig and 19 points; Brianna Burgess 6 kills, 3 digs, a block and 9 points; Maddy Howes 4 digs, an assist and 8 points; Kristen Mauer 3 digs, a kill, 6 points and an ace; Lindsey Klingele 5 kills and a block; Lauren Comer 3 digs and an assist; Emily Brashier an assist and a block; Madison Peabody an assist and a dig; and Brittani Chamberlain a point. For Greencastle, Taylor Stoltey had 12 digs and 9 assists.

JV — North won 25-16, 25-16.

Next — North (11-5) plays Thursday at Terre Haute South. Greencastle plays Thursday at Monrovia.
