TERRE HAUTE — TH native Gutish places at X Games

Seventeen-year-old Rachel Gutish, a junior at Terre Haute North High School, placed fifth in the women’s endurocross main event as part of the Global X Games, which were televised live by ESPN on Thursday night from the city of Foz do Iguaeu in Brazil, South America.
Riding a Yamaha YZ 250S Gutish got as high as second in the competition before settling for fifth.
Gutish plans to compete in the women’s endurocross events at the next Global X Games stops in Barcelona (May 18) and Munich (June 29).
* Sycamores lose two — At Normal, Ill., Illinois State dealt visiting Indiana State a pair of Missouri Valley Conference losses Saturday, 4-2 in the first game and 9-1 in the nightcap.
The Sycamores had a two-out rally in the fourth inning of the first game to take a 2-0 lead on walks to Mike Fitzgerald and Jordan Pearson, an error, a failed fielder’s choice attempt and an RBI single by Landon Curry.
But after Sean Manaea had fanned eight batters in the first five innings, the host Redbirds got all their runs in the sixth, the big blow a three-run homer by Eric Aguilera.
Indiana State stranded 13 runners for the game, with Curry getting three hits and Robby Ort two.
Koby Kraemer had an RBI single in the first inning of the second game, but the Redbirds took advantage of wildness by Indiana State starter Devin Moore, then put the game away with a five-run seventh inning.
Curry was 2 for 5 with a double, Kraemer was 2 for 4 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and Ort had a hit for the ninth straight game.
Indiana State is now 17-16, 7-7 in the MVC, and has lost nine consecutive series in Normal since 1993. The final game of the series is 2 p.m. today.
