Semifinals set for Terre Haute womens' city golf tournament

INDIANAPOLIS — Semifinal matches are set for the Terre Haute women’s city golf tournament today at Hulman Links.

Terre Haute South High School girls golf and basketball coach Cara Stuckey, the defending city champion, began her bid for a 10th title by defeating Eileen Mann on Saturday.

Stuckey will meet one of her players, Ali Danielson, today. Danielson edged former South player Morgan Patterson 1 up.

Another former South player, Alexandra Pickens, will meet Megan Ramer, who will be a freshman at Terre Haute North, in the other semifinal match.

Pickens defeated Taylor Monroe and Ramer bested Beth Lowe.

Stuckey has gone up against one of her players or former players in previous tournaments. “We’ll have fun,” said the coach.

She had one birdie and one bogey in her round Saturday. “The course played a little longer with the sodding,” she noted.

Danielson will be a sophomore at South and plays golf and basketball. “It will be difficult,” she said of her match against Stuckey.

Ramer is playing in the tournament for the second time and in match play for the first time. She has been busy this summer; this tournament is her seventh. She was first in her age division in the junior city and she won the girls title in a tournament at Forest Park.

“I like match play. If you have a bad hole, you can recover from it,” she said.

Mann went up against the No. 1 seed for the third time in recent years in the city. She faced Stuckey once and Rachael Pruett once.

Mann played for North and has been playing in the tournament since she was 14 years of age. She will face Patterson in a consolation-bracket match today.

In the first flight, Gloria Curtis was a winner Saturday and will face Kathy Berlin today. Berlin had a bye in the first round of match play.

Linda Price edged Josie Swalls 1 up and will have a bye today.

In the second flight, Patti West takes on Vanessa Mudd, who had a bye, today and Taylor Baugh has a bye.

The city will conclude Monday with tee times beginning around 8 a.m. at Hulman Links.
