METRO ROUNDUP: Terre Haute South boys, girls finish swimming season unbeaten

INDIANAPOLIS — Terre Haute South wrapped up unbeaten dual-meet seasons in both boys and girls swimming Saturday at Ben Davis, where the Braves beat both Brebeuf and the host Giants.

It’s the first unbeaten season ever for the South girls, and just the second for the South boys.

In other swimming:

• Engineers compete — At St. Louis, Rose-Hulman competitors had top-five finishes in 14 individual events and seven relays over the weekend at the Washington University Invitational.

Rose was fourth in the final men’s standings and fifth among women’s teams in a meet that included two top-20 Division III teams and a top Division II program.

Orion Martin won the 100 butterfly for the Engineers in as time of 51.35 seconds. Second-place finishes were earned by Regen Foote in 3-meter diving (315.85), John Huster in 100 backstroke (55.95), Matthew King in the 1,650 freestyle (16:42.10) and Matt Ross in the 200 butterfly (1:57.35).

Placing third were Foote in 1-meter diving (348.50, Nicole Richardson in 3-meter diving (306.20) and Tai Enrico in 200 backstroke (2:02.14).

Five relay teams — men’s 200 and 400 freestyle and 200 and 400 medley and women’s 200 freestyle — placed fourth and the women’s 400 freestyle and 400 medley teams were fifth.

Rose-Hulman returns to action Saturday at Lindenwood.

Pool

• Dave Edwards Memorial completed — Danny Sappington became the first three-time winner of the Dave Edwards Memorial Pool Tournament on Saturday at Plaza Billiards.

Harold Rigdon was the second-place finisher, with Dave Altmeyer third, Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman fourth and Monty Bayless and Rick Weston sharing the fifth and sixth spots.



Basketball

• Marshall 68, Shakamak 61 — At Jasonville, the visiting Lions concluded a 2-1 week with Saturday’s interstate road victory.

The Lions scored 12 straight points in the third quarter and took a 43-33 lead into the  foul-laden final period, when they led by as many 16 points.

Taylor Maurer led the 12-6 Lions with 23 points and seven rebounds before fouling out late in the contest. Walker Berner had 14 points for the winners and Keegan Steele tallied 12.

Brodie Crowe led the Lakers with 23 points and Brandon Morin had 20.

The Lions again will have three games this week, starting with a Tuesday date at Lawrenceville.

• Mooresville 63, Northview 43 — At Brazil, the Knights dropped their second game of the weekend on Saturday.

The 5-7 Knights will meet Bloomington North in a home game Tuesday and go to South Vermillion on Friday. Mooresville is 3-7.



• Cascade 77, South Vermillion 50 — At Clayton, Kaden Lawson had 22 points, six rebounds and four assists and Aaron Hines had eight points and eight rebounds for the visiting Wildcats on Saturday.
