ISU’s Abdul-Qaadir, Munn All-MVC selections

ST. LOUIS — Senior guards Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir and Anna Munn have both been named to Missouri Valley Conference All-Conference teams, announced by the league on Wednesday. Abdul-Qaadir earned a spot on the first-team while Munn was named honorable mention.

Evansville’s Sara Dickey, a Riverton Parke graduate, was also named first-team All-MVC and to the All-Freshan team. Dickey averaged 17.3 points during MVC play to rank fifth in the league. The No. 4-seed Purple Aces play Drake in Friday’s quarterfinals.

The top-seeded Sycamores head into the MVC Tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of No. 8 Loyola and No. 9 Bradley.

Abdul-Qaadir is the first first-team honoree for the Sycamores since Kelsey Luna in 2009. The Springfield, Mass., native leads the Sycamore offense with 14.4 points per game, 127 assists (4.3) and 56 steals (1.93) per game. Her 14.4 points per game is eighth in the MVC, third in assists, sixth in steals and seventh in free-throw percentage (.790).

She has been named the MVC Player of the Week three times, Newcomer of the Week twice and Scholar-Athlete of the Week twice this season. She set nearly all of her career-highs at Indiana State, recording 32 points at Loyola, dished out 11 assists at Wichita State and grabbed nine rebounds against Northern Iowa.

She has started at point guard in all 29 games of the season and scored in double-figures 21 times. Abdul-Qaadir recorded her first double-double at Wichita State on Feb. 23 with 12 points and 11 assists.

Munn earns her second all-conference honor, as she earned second team honors a season ago.

In her senior season, Munn, who saw action in 26 games this season, ranks second with 12.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. She leads the league and tied for ninth in the country in free throw percentage with a .889 and second in the league in 3-pointers made (53, 2.0). She also comes in 10th in assists (72, 2.8), eighth in minutes played (857, 33.0) and 14th in scoring.

The Indianapolis native scored a season-high 24 points versus then nationally-ranked LSU on Dec. 3 and pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds twice, including a double-double effort against Missouri State on Jan. 25.

She currently ranks 14th all-time with 1,265 career points as she scored her 1,000th point this season against Marshall on Nov. 24. On Tuesday, Munn was named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

As per new league rules this season, only a first and honorable mention team are awarded.

Despite being the top-ranked team in points allowed, Indiana State did not have a player voted to the All-Defensive team.
