TERRE HAUTE — Three Danville pitchers combined to shut down the Terre Haute Rex 7-1 at Bob Warn Field on Saturday night.

The loss dropped the Rex 31⁄2 games behind co-leaders Danville and Quincy in the Western Division of the Prospect League.

The Rex and the Dans each left 10 runners on base, but the Danville club had 10 hits and they all seemed to come at the right time – three straight in the first inning. The Rex had six hits, three in the ninth inning.

“To me, it came down to [Danville] ran a really good starting pitcher out there and he had our guys off balance. We did hit a couple of balls hard that didn’t fall. They hit the ball really well tonight. They also had some hits squeak through with the bases loaded that were double play balls,” Rex coach Ronnie Prettyman said.

The Rex had runners on base in eight of the nine innings but didn’t get on the scoreboard until the sixth inning. The game ended on a strikeout with bases loaded.

Danville (22-11) scored twice in the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Josh Miller and Casey Fletcher and a single by Corbin Olmstead. Kyle Kempf’s diving catch in center field got the Rex out of the first inning.

The Dans extended their lead to 6-0 with a four-run fifth inning.

The Rex got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Kalik May beat out an infield single in the sixth inning for the Rex third hit of the game. May stole second, moved to third on an infield ground out. May came on a Danville error.

Danville’s 10 hits and seven runs came off four pitchers. Taylor Krugh (0-4) started for the Rex. Krugh was relieved in the fifth by Josh Dove, who was lifted of John Robert Patterson and Bryan Nacke finished the game.

May led the Rex attack with two singles.
