Shoemaker hosting camp Aug. 17

TERRE HAUTE — A shoulder injury has kept Brady Shoemaker, a Double-A outfielder in the Chicago White Sox organization, from being the place he loves the most.

But later this month, Shoemaker will take time to share his love of baseball with the youth of the Wabash Valley.

The Brady Shoemaker Baseball Camp is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at the FBC Christian Youth Camp in Brazil, and will include lunch for participants. There is no cost and boys and girls ages 7-14 are asked to register by today. T-shirts will be provided and prizes will be awarded.

The former Northview High School and Indiana State standout will put kids through instruction in batting, fielding, throwing and running.

He’ll have help from current Northview players.

“I just want to see a lot of kids get out and enjoy baseball. There’s going to be some local high school players that come out with me. These young people see the [Northview] kids play and hopefully they look up to those guys and want to be in that situation someday,” Shoemaker said.

Shoemaker’s plans are to continue his rehab from major shoulder surgery so he can be ready for spring training in 2014.

“Just hope to be ready for spring training next year,” Shoemaker said.

If interested in participating in the camp, contact Denisa Reberger Timberman at 317-362-5539 or Leesa Nesty at 812-240-2753.
