TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South started and finished strong Saturday to win the South Braves Invitational for boys high school golf teams played at Rea Park.
South shot 150 on the front nine in sunny, chilly conditions and finished with 310 for first place. Terre Haute North took second with 314 followed by Greencastle with 317, Indianapolis North Central with 322, Sullivan 324 and Linton with 328 for the top six in the 12-team event.
Cole Bradbury of Linton was medalist with a par 72, edging Luke Brotherton of Greencastle with 73.
Luke Peoples and Drew Cahill of South, Sam Pollock of North and Jackson Juerling of North Central all shot 74s to tie for third.
Bradbury earlier shot 71 to earn medalist honors in the Northview Invitational. He went 38-34 in Saturday’s round and chipped in for a birdie on No. 17. He also had birdies on 2 and 12.
“I missed a few putts on the front but made up for it on the back,” said Bradbury.
It was South’s best finish in three tournaments. Peoples and Drew Cahill led the team with their 74s while Ryan Cahill had 89 and Sam Mimms 83 to round out the scoring.
“Great play and a great score for this weather. Luke had 74 in spite of [bogeys] at the finish. Two 74s were super solid,” said coach Chris Cassell.
Mario Foradori led the South B team to seventh place with 79 and Darin Pemberton carded 37 on the back to finish with 81.
The Braves will be at Greencastle for a match at Windy Hills on Monday.
North had 158 on the front and now has finished second or shot the second-best score in the third straight tournament.
Pollock led the Patriots with his 74 followed by Adam LaGrange with 77, Evan Perdiew with 80 and Andrew Behnke with 83.
“I was pleased. Sam played well. We need for him to do that. We just need to have better weather and play more matchs to figure out our top five,” said coach Abe Nasser Jr.
