Prep roundup: Pats and Braves are volleyball winners

DUGGER — Visiting Terre Haute North made short work of the host Bulldogs in high school volleyball Monday, downing Union 25-5, 25-14, 25-9 in nonconference play.

Anna Taylor had 31 assists and Mandee Eberle 17 kills for the Patriots.

Highlights — For North, Anna Taylor had 31 assists, 7 digs, 4 kills, 16 points and an ace; Mandee Eberle 17 kills, 4 digs, a block and 14 points; Kristen Mauer 11 digs, 2 assists, a kill and 7 points; Valerie Lewis 3 kills, a dig, 14 points and an ace; Maddy Howes a dig, an assist and 16 points; Brianna Burgess 6 kills, a dig and 4 points; Madison Peabody 4 digs and 7 points; Lindsey Klingele 7 kills, a dig, a block and an assist; Lauren Comer 6 digs and an assist; and Brittani Chamberlain a dig.

JV — North won 25-8, 25-11.

Soccer

• Alices, Spartans win — In first-round high school soccer sectional matches, the Vincennes Lincoln boys and the South Knox girls each won by 2-0 scores Monday night.

At Terre Haute North, the Alices downed Owen Valley and earned a spot in Wednesday’s semifinals against Terre Haute South. Terre Haute North and Northview play the 5 p.m. opener that day.

At Sullivan, the Spartans eliminated Pike Central and will play South Vermillion in the 5 p.m. opener on Thursday. Matches at Sullivan today feature West Vigo against North Knox, followed by Washington Catholic against the Golden Arrows.

In Class A girls sectional play at Greencastle, Western Boone beat North Putnam 2-0 and Tri-West downed Southmont 6-0.
