Prep roundup: Wolfe fires in 27 to lead Casey to LIC win

LAWRENCEVILL, Ill. — Lawrenceville took Brandon Wolfe out of the Casey offense in the second quarter, but the Warriors used that period to take the lead and went on to win 77-70 in Little Illini Conference boys high school basketball Thursday night.

Wolfe had a game-high 27 but none in the second period, when the visitors overcame a first-quarter deficit. Zack Murphy had nine of his 18 points in the second quarter for Casey, and Sam Huisinga and Trey Thompson added 12 each.

  • Farris, Amies win Brazil Open titles

    Troy Farris and George Amies were two winners in the Brazil Open concluded Sunday at Forest Park.
    Farris claimed his 10th title in the event with rounds of 65 and 68 for 9-under-par 133. He went 30-35 in Sunday’s round and had an eagle and nine birdies in the two days.

    Phegley is a third-time All-Star in the International League, while Marshall, Ill., native Derek Eitel was named to his first Triple-A All-Star game. The Rose-Hulman graduate and right-handed relief pitcher for the Reno Aces has put up impressive numbers in the Pacific Coast League. Eitel has a 2.70 earned-run average with 60 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings for the Diamondbacks’ top minor-league team.
