TERRE HAUTE —
Four games tip off the Little Illini Conference boys basketball tournament today at Olney High School.
This year’s tournament is wide-open with six or seven teams having good chances to cut down the nets next week.
Newton is the No. 1 seed and lost for the first time in the league last week, losing to Lawrenceville. Coach Randy Bishop’s team is the No. 7 seed and also was a winner at Marshall this week.
The Lions are the No. 2 seed and also lost at Robinson and to Newton last week.
Casey is the defending tourney champ, defeating Newton in the championship game. Robinson took third place and Marshall was the consolation champion.
Casey lost to Marshall in its first conference game this season, then has lost at Newton by two points and to Olney in overtime. The Warriors are the No. 4 seed.
The host Olney team has yet to lose a conference game and is the No. 3 seed.
Robinson has a 5-2 mark in the league and is the No. 6 seed.
Four games are scheduled for Saturday and the semifinals are slated for Tuesday. Consolation-bracket action begins Monday with games at the teams with the higher seeds.
Cumberland, Hutsonville-Palestine and Oblong are playing in their final LIC tournament. All will be members of the Little Okaw Valley Conference next year and Paris will be in the LIC.
