Bloomfield won its first Greene County Invitational title Tuesday night, defeating Linton 40-38 in overtime at White River Valley.
The Cardinals outscored the Miners 3-1 in the extra session to win the title, playing in the tournament for only the second season.
Bloomfield took a 35-29 lead into the fourth frame, but Linton scored six straight points to tie the game. Bryant Jackson had five of the six points.
Brandon Van Sant got Bloomfield’s only points of the quarter and his only points of the game to give the Cardinals a 37-35 but Beau Eaton scored for the Miners for the tie that sent the game into the overtime.
Freshman Chris Gilmore scored the only basket of the extra session to put Bloomfield ahead for good 39-37. Joe Dieball hit a free throw for Linton’s only point and Kyle Robinson hit a free toss for the Cardinals to close out the scoring.
The score was tied twice in the first period that ended with Bloomfield leading 13-11. Jared Myers had all of the points for the Cardinals and finished with 17. He was named MVP of the tournament.
Robinson and Gilmore got all the points for Bloomfield in a 7-0 run, giving the Cards a 25-18 lead. Jackson's basket made it a 25-20 game at halftime.
Robinson had 11 points and Gilmore eight for the 8-3 Cardinals while Zach Riddell led 7-3 Linton with 14, scoring 10 in the first half.
The Cardinals and Miners both have games Friday night and will meet again on Saturday at Bloomfield.

Next — Bloomfield (8-3) will play host to South Knox on Friday and to Linton (7-3) on Saturday. Linton is at Vincennes Rivet on Friday.
• Eels win — Clay City led all the way to defeat Eastern Greene 56-48 and take third place in the tournament.
The Eels had a 12-7 lead after one period, led 23-16 at halftime and took control of the contest in the third period, leading 40-25 going into the final frame.
Eastern Greene trailed by as many as 19 points in the last quarter but used a 15-3 run to cut the lead to seven but could get no closer.
Evan Rogers scored eight points in a row to start the game and led all scorers with 20 points for the 7-4 Eels. Josh Miller added 13 points to the CC totals.
Cam Creager led Eastern Greene, now 6-4, with 16 points and Cam Sego had 13.
Clay City and Eastern will meet again Friday at Eastern Greene.
