QUINCY, ILL. —
The Terre Haute Rex managed just one run in 16 innings Tuesday at Quincy, dropping both games of a doubleheader to the Gems, who took over first place in the West Division with the wins.
The Rex (9-5) got two hits from Jeff Zahn but lost 2-1 to the Gems in the nightcap, following up a 1-0 loss in the opener.
Terre Haute Rex pitcher Matthew Chavarria allowed just one hit through six innings in the first game, but Quincy pitcher Preston Church was on his mark as well, allowing two hits through 6 2/3 innings.
n On Monday, the Terre Haute Rex picked up an 11-2 victory over the Danville Dans, maintaining a lead in the West Division in the Prospect League.
Terre Haute’s Tony Rosselli went 3 for 4 with a double and two stolen bases to raise his batting average to .313 on the season. Cody Smithson and Caleb Caton hit home runs for the Rex.
Manuel DeJesus had two more hits including a double, and Jeff Zahn drove in his 18th run of the season. The Rex improved to 9-2 in the second half, taking a 1 1/2 game lead into Tuesday night’s doubleheader against Quincy
