Metro sports: Rosselli, Biechler capture Prospect League honors

TERRE HAUTE — The Terre Haute Rex swept the Prospect League Player of the Week honors this week.

Terre Haute native Tony Rosselli, heading into his sophomore season for Indiana State, was named the Player of the Week. He has a seven-game hitting streak with four home runs, 11 RBI and a .346 batting average to raise his season average to .282.

Reagan Biechler of Wichita State is the Pitcher of the Week. The left-hander sported a 2-0 record over two starts, pitching 13 innings and allowing eight hits and four earned runs. He struck out eight and pitched in the All-Star game.

The Rex are back in action at 7:05 p.m. today at home against the Quincy Gems.

• Post 346 wins again — At Terre Haute North, Wayne Newton Post 346 picked up its third American Legion baseball victory in as many days Thursday night, downing visiting Rockville 7-1.

Damon Bass was the winning pitcher for Post 346, which beat Clinton on Tuesday and routed Lafayette on the road on Wednesday, while Mitchell Clinkenbeard had a double and a homer and Austin Slover had three hits.

On Wednesday, Terre Haute beat Lafayette 14-0 in seven innings. Jonathan Eilbracht hit the first pitch of the game out of the park to give his team the lead for good and Cody Brock had a grand-slam homer.

•  Ace in Parke County — At Turkey Run Golf Course, Dan Butler of Rockville had a hole-in-one Friday on the 136-yard 12th hole.

His 9-iron shot was witnessed by Alan Randolph, Lee Massey, Jerry Monts and Danny Kerr.
