Prep/Metro roundup: Hambrock named to all-state tennis team

TERRE HAUTE — Lauren Hambrock of Terre Haute South was named to the all-state first team on Monday by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association.

Hambrock reached the state finals in individual singles competition, losing a quarterfinal match to eventual state runner-up Jade Kawamoto of Greenwood.

South’s No. 1 doubles team of Pam Dorman and Sofia Saylor, who also advanced in individual competition, made the all-state second team.

Basketball

• All-Star games at Anderson
— The fourth annual Class Basketball All-Star Classic games are Friday and Saturday at Anderson University.

Junior girls will play at 12:30 and 2 p.m. Friday, with junior boys at 6:30 and 8 that day. On Saturday, senior girls play at 12:30 and 2, senior boys at 6:30 and 8 and the Christian school all-star boys game is at 4 p.m.

Teams are divided to play for Class 1A-2A championships and Class 3A-4A championships.

Wabash Valley players involved are Marquise Moore of Cloverdale in 1A-2A junior boys, Mikayla Rowan of Northview in 3A-4A junior girls, Charlie Aimone of North and Timmy Herrin of Terre Haute South in 3A-4A junior boys and Adrienne Pritchard of Terre Haute North in 3A-4A senior girls.

Golf

• Pair of aces
— At Idle Creek, two holes-in-one were reported Sunday.

Martin Schmidt of Terre Haute used an 8-iron to ace the 115-yard third hole, a shot witnessed by L.Schmidt and C.Schmidt, and Ashley Matchett of Terre Haute used a 7-iron for his shot at the 145-yard ninth hole, witnessed by Don May, Rick Gordon and Pierce Gordon.

Auto racing

• Clauson wins finale
— At Kokomo, Bryan Clauson won the final race in the Indiana Midget Week competition on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway.

Clauson led the final 13 turns to win the 30-lap U.S. Auto Club feature with Tracy Hines second and Rico Abreu third.

Abreu took Midget Week honors and is first in the midget point totals.

Heat winners — Brady Bacon, Ronnie Gardner, Christopher Bell, Tanner Thorson, Chris Windom (semi).

Final Midget Week points — Abreu 275, Clauson 244, Hines 236, Darland 217, Pickens 177, Bell 176, Windom 159.

    A trio of Indiana State basketball student-athletes have been named to the 2013-14 National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court as announced by the national organization. Honored from Indiana State were Lucas Eitel, Justin Gant and Jake Kitchell.
